With another New Year upon us, I can’t help but reflect on 2022 and dream about how much better I can make 2023. I want this next year to be full of joy and happiness, growth and resilience. If you want that too, read along and start laying the foundation for a year focused on everything good you can dream up.

When was the last time you checked in with yourself? When was the last time you asked yourself how you were feeling in general, or in a specific area of your life?

Simplifying Self Check-Ins

The easiest way to gauge our own wellbeing, is to normalize these simple check-ins. Self-care can seem overwhelming when we don’t know where to begin so let’s start here. Think of it like this: check your wellbeing like you check your bank account or savings balance.

How often do you log in and check your account balances? And what if you checked your wellbeing the same amount? Would your life look and feel different? Would you feel different?

In 2023, I want you to be the kind of person who knows how much is in each well-being “account”. Each account, physical, emotional, spiritual, social… impacts your life in different ways and ultimately decides how well you are. Are you happy? Burnt out? Struggling with depression? Fulfilled? These are all determined or changed through how “well” we are.

Assets Worth Protecting

The same theory applies when we think about protecting what we already have. Because once you invest in your well-being, you’ll want to protect whatever foundation you’ve built.

Consider your health as an example. Once you’re taking excellent care of yourself, your health becomes something you don’t want to jeopardize because you realize how important it is. Just like a home you purchased or your brand new car, these are assets you check on, you routinely care for and you protect. Your health and wellbeing should be no different.

  • I know exactly what my credit card limit is – but can sometimes be foggy when it comes to personal limitations.
  • I regularly check my account balances but don’t apply this habit to my personal well-being “accounts”.
  • I protect my assets, like my house and car, but don’t apply the same level of protection or care to myself or my health.

If any of these sound like you, this clarity is your first step into better well-being practices in 2023! By simplifying self-care, checking in with yourself and understanding the why’s and how’s of well-being, you can build healthy, daily rituals that will boost your well-being balance.
